On-Site Research Appointments and Print Options at NYPL are Expanded

[Note: As of 11/25/2020, book requests from the Research Libraries and in-person appointments are temporarily suspended due to COVID-19.]

Starting today, it’s possible to schedule an appointment to visit any of The New York Public Library’s four Research Libraries – the nearby Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, Performing Arts, Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, or the Business Center at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (formerly the Science and Business Library, or SIBL).

Before doing so, you’ll need to meet virtually with an NYPL librarian, in advance of your visit – so be sure to plan ahead, and schedule enough time in advance for your research needs.

Another new option (called Grab & Go for Researchers)┬áis that you can request books from the four NYPL Research Libraries, for in-person pickup. This service is open to “All NYPL patrons with MaRLI, Research Borrower, and CUNY Graduate Center borrowing privileges.” Be sure to enter your GC email address when filling out the Book Request form – and if you don’t yet have an NYPL barcode, you can obtain one by downloading the app, SimplyE. (If you’re not physically in NY State, please email ref@gc.cuny.edu for further instructions).

The New York Public Library also has many databases that are available to you remotely, with an NYPL barcode – check out the offerings, here. Feel free to be in touch with a GC Librarian if you have any questions about the above – we’re happy to help you coordinate the various access points, and the research process.
