The Graduate Center’s Mina Rees Library seeks a College Assistant to work in Interlibrary Loan. This busy and collegial department provides a core service at the Library, providing access to a wide variety of materials for our faculty, staff and students. College Assistants play an essential role in the daily operation of the unit, processing requests accurately and efficiently on a daily basis to support the GC community’s many research needs.
Essential qualities and qualifications include dependability, conscientiousness and attention to detail, problem-solving ability, strong communication skills, strong computer skills and willingness to learn interlibrary loan system software, ability to work cooperatively with others, and a strong customer service orientation.
Responsibilities include pulling and scanning materials for the Scan & Deliver service; unpacking, sorting and processing incoming materials borrowed for library users and returned materials borrowed by other libraries; assisting in lending materials to other libraries; returning borrowed materials to lending libraries, taking care in labeling, handling, and packing; providing customer service to patrons as needed; assisting with miscellaneous tasks as directed in support of the unit’s goals; assisting other departments when needed. Duties involve a significant amount of packing and unpacking physical materials and learning a variety of computer programs specific to Interlibrary Loan, including ILLiad and Odyssey, as well as Aleph, library catalogs, and shipping software.
This is a part-time position, for 10-15 hours per week. Hours are available between 9AM and 5PM M-F, with Monday and Friday availability required.
