What did the GC Library’s hard-working visionaries accomplish in Fall 2014?
On top of the reference service, the instruction, and the purchasing, organizing, describing, and shelving we do all the time, here’s a short list of projects we knocked off:
Rolled out a new library web site and tweaked it to user specs;
Introduced OneSearch, CUNY’s cross-database search tool, helping OLS to make it work CUNY-wide;
Sponsored the wildly popular #remixthediss series with the fab Futures Initiative, plus other excellent workshops;
Added new dissertations, faculty publications, and computer science technical reports to GC Academic Works;
Offered free earplugs at the GC ref desk (great idea, DSC!)
Meanwhile, behind the scenes we:
Bought books using a new Coutts vendor with new reports from OLS about heavily requested CLICS titles;
Licensed Electronic Arts Intermix’s new experimental streaming video, Rosetta Stone and other resources;
Added lots gift books in music, art, and the social sciences;
Found a way to pay for very expensive Elsevier Science Direct journals as part of a cost-minimizing CUNY-wide effort;
Advertised for a Data Librarian to boost our support for the GC’s statistical and visualization needs.
And to celebrate all this, we ate pizza together at Grimaldi’s NYC in Chelsea last Friday. Happy Holidays from the GC Library!
