New Database Interfaces: Accessible Archives, EBSCO, and Nexis Uni

Here are some hints about how to get started using three database interfaces that were updated recently:

Accessible Archives

Accessible Archives provides full-text access to 18th and 19th century American newspapers, magazines, books, and other publications. The Archives are now hosted on the History Commons platform. To get started, click on “Advanced” in the Search bar. From “Advanced Search”, search these archival texts by keyword, limiting by date and document/publication type, as you prefer.

EBSCO

EBSCO provides access to several databases. Before you search, you can select from a variety of filters. Within the interface, you can scroll down to see even more filter options.

Then, after searching, you can click on “All filters” to add or change filters.

From “All filters”, you will see a “lock” icon that indicates that the filters you selected will remain active as you modify your search. However, you can remove or clear filters between searches by clicking on the “lock” icon or, alternatively, by clicking on “New search”.

Nexis Uni

Nexis Uni is a news, business, and legal database. From the “Home” screen, the search field defaults to “All available dates”, however, you can change the date range to suit your needs. Also, you can click on “All Content Types” to select a specific type, including sub-types.

From the “Power Search” screen, you can combine content types under “Filters”.
