We’re excited to announce the second annual LGBTQIA+ Consortium Fellowship, made possible in partnership between the Mina Rees Library, CLAGS: The Center for LGBTQ Studies, and LaGuardia Community College’s Wagner Archives. In 2021, LaGuardia Community College established the CUNY-wide LGBTQIA+ Consortium – making available City Council funding for innovative queer programming across the campuses. Open to all Graduate Center doctoral students. Apply by 2/13 at 5pm EST!

About CLAGS: The Center for LGBTQ Studies

Founded in 1991, the CLAGS Archives document the history and development of an organization that played a leading role in the establishment and legitimization of queer studies through and beyond the 1990s, a time when the categories of queer and academia were widely believed to be mutually exclusive. The majority of the CLAGS archives is not currently available in a digital format, although some materials are available online.

Fellowship Goals:

Working in collaboration with the CLAGS Archives Committee, Mina Rees Library, and CLAGS staff members, the Fellow will assist in creating an itemized inventory of materials; prepare VHS materials for Spring 2023 digitization project; assess born-digital media content for inclusion into the collection. The Fellow will additionally research historical/organizational context relating to these materials, towards the goal of promoting wider accessibility and use of the CLAGS Archives for original research/scholarship.

There is a $5,000 stipend associated with this project-based work, for approximately 110 hours between February 15th-June 30th, 2023.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

The Spring 2023 Fellowship is open to Graduate Center doctoral students. Participants must be fully enrolled in the Spring 2023 semester to receive the stipend. Full enrollment for doctoral students is 7 credits or weighed instructions units (WIUs).
