We are happy to announce a new collaboration that has brought access to The Chief to all Graduate Center affiliates.
The Chief is a New York City-based newspaper that has long focused on municipal government, civil servants, and the issues affecting New York State and federal employees. Formerly known as The Chief Leader and the Chief Civil Service Leader, the publication was founded in 1897 as an independent newspaper for city firemen. Its coverage has now expanded to include all public workers in New York as well as working people in the private and public sectors and in the gig economy. The Chief is published 52 weeks a year and its website carries new content daily.
You can browse through recent issues online, use the advanced search for older content (anything older than the last two years), and find articles by our own alumni or featuring interviews with our own School of Labor and Urban Studies faculty.
Links to this resource can be found in OneSearch and on our list of A-Z databases and on our research guides for Labor and Urban Studies.
