ALA Emerging Library Leader Kai Alexis Smith

kaiCUNY Graduate Center Adjunct Reference Librarian Kai Alexis Smith has been selected to the the 2014 ALA Emerging Leaders class. She will participate in a 6-month program designed to enable library workers to plan and lead projects and to explore libraries and library networks.

The American Library Association (ALA) Emerging Leaders (EL) program is a leadership development program which enables newer library workers from across the country to participate in problem-solving work groups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA structure, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. It puts participants on the fast track to ALA committee volunteerism as well as other professional library-related organizations.

According to its website, the program is limited to no more than 50 participants each year, but this year the ALA has selected 56 people to participate.  We are pleased to have on our staff this emerging leader.  Her contributions to the GC through this development are anticipated and welcome.

Congratulations, Kai!
