In the library or archive and don’t have a smartphone or mobile device to take notes with?
Did you know you can still use a (basic, non-smart) cell phone’s SMS-texting feature with Google Voice as a shortcut to begin the document creation process. Simply set up a Google Voice (previously Grand Central) number (requires a Google/Gmail account) and after account/number setup:
- Go into your settings (gear icon).
- Click on the Voicemail & Text tab.
- Click on Text Forwarding Checkbox (for example: @gmail.com).
- Click on the <Save Changes> button.
- Once set up, you can text your notes to your Google Voice number and the text will appear in your Gmail.
- You can copy and then paste into a Google Doc (Google Drive) or your favorite word processing application.

Excellent article! I’ve been using Google Voice for international calls for a couple of years and it never came to my mind that I could also use it’s texting feature to take notes. Thanks for sharing.
