We’re pleased to announce two LGBTQAI Consortium Fellowships, which represent the unique and ongoing partnership between Mina Rees Library, CUNY Digital History Archive, and CLAGS: The Center for LGBTQ Studies. This opportunity is made possible by generous funding from the Wagner Archives at LaGuardia Community College.

Applications are currently open for two Fellowships – Exhibits & Outreach, and Digital Fellow – as described below. Each Fellow will be awarded a $5,000 stipend for project-based work between January-June 2022 (approximately 80-100 hours, on a flexible schedule based on individual availability).

Eligibility: Graduate Center doctoral students who are fully enrolled in Spring 2022 are eligible to apply. [Full enrollment for doctoral students is 7 credits or weighed instructions units (WIUs)]. If you have a question about your eligibility, please feel contact us (ebakaitis@gc.cuny.edu).

Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated interest and/or experience working with LGBTQ materials, and/or familiarity with queer historical figures and related topics.

Exhibits & Outreach Fellowship

The Exhibits & Outreach Fellowship is an excellent opportunity for those interested in LGBTQ history, activism, and scholarship. CLAGS: The Center for LGBTQ Studies was founded in 1991, holding a central role in the development of Queer Studies as a field of scholarship. Materials in the CLAGS Archive include posters, flyers, newsletters, A/V footage of conferences and events, awards ceremony speeches, and more.

The Fellow will review and select materials for an online exhibit, in some cases digitizing material that has not previously been made available in a digital format.

Additionally, they will take the lead in researching and writing text to supplement the online materials. The Fellow will work to develop an online study guide of extra resources and focus questions, to complement the digital exhibit.

Digital Fellowship

Working with the CUNY Digital History Archive project director, the Digital Fellow will help to scope design changes to the public interface of the archive and create/modify CSS and Omeka theme files to accommodate a new online exhibit of archival materials from CLAGS: The Center for LGBTQ Studies.

Requirements for Digital Fellowship: Proficiency in front-end development web programming languages such as HTML and CSS, and a good understanding of content management systems is required. Experience with Omeka Classic is preferred.
