Apply now! Open Pedagogy Fellowship – Winter and Spring 2022

Open Pedagogy Fellowship – Apply by Monday 10/18/21 at 5pm EST

The Library seeks applications for the Open Pedagogy Fellowship, each carrying a $2000 stipend. There are two Fellowship cohorts: one in Winter 2022 and another in Spring 2022. Please review the dates below carefully when indicating your availability.

What is the Open Pedagogy Fellowship?

The Fellowship provides interactive training about how to find and implement openly licensed resources for the courses you teach (see Eligibility below). Open resources may include lab manuals, Open Access journal articles, Creative Commons-licensed works, and other types of content. You will learn:

      • How to identify and implement OER, OA, and other forms of “open”
      • How to bring Open Pedagogy into your teaching practices
      • About the benefits of open resources for students, researchers & authors – as well as  discipline-specific obstacles
      • About the ethical considerations and practical economics of scholarly publishing

Fundamentally, this is an opportunity to consider how knowledge is created and produced, and for whom. By the end, you will have a syllabus that’s zero-cost for the undergraduate students in  your course, a deeper sense of scholarly publishing, and strategies to center student perspectives within open resources.

    Who is Eligible to Apply?

Graduate Center doctoral students who will be teaching at CUNY in Spring or Fall 2022. For both the Winter and Spring cohorts, participants must be fully enrolled in the Spring 2022 semester to receive the stipend. Full enrollment for doctoral students is 7 credits or weighed instructions units (WIUs). If you have questions about this please contact us below. Applicants will be notified of acceptance in November 2021.

Dates for Winter and Spring Cohorts:

Fellows are required to participate in workshops on the following dates/times, held synchronously over Zoom.

    Cohort 1 – Winter 2022 – Six Fridays, 1pm-3pm

    January 7, 14, 21, 28th  |  February 4, 11th

    Cohort 2 – Spring 2022 – Five Thursdays, 1pm-3pm

    March 17, 24, 31th  |  April 7, 14th

*If one of the above dates or the time slot does not work for you, please apply and note this on your application.

    Syllabus Conversion Project:

We’ll take a close look at your syllabus, and find equivalent materials that are free and openly licensed. You’ll learn how to identify and interpret Creative Commons, apply the principles of Fair Use, and locate Open Access scholarship within your discipline.

Fellows will create an OER / zero-cost syllabus to replace an existing syllabus for a course that will be taught in Spring/ Fall 2022 – or – that was previously offered in a recent semester and is expected to be taught again.

Apply by 10/18/21 at 5pm EST  – If you have questions about the Fellowship or application process, please contact Mr. Elvis Bakaitis, Interim Head of Reference:  ebakaitis@gc.cuny.edu
