May 2019 Grads: Deposit Your Dissertation or Thesis by April 30th

Planning to graduate this May? The library’s Dissertation Office is holding information sessions and workshops in advance of the April 30 deposit deadline. Click on the dates below to view event details and RSVP.

Depositing a dissertation, thesis, or capstone project with the library is the last step to obtaining the degree. The library’s format guidelines and deposit procedures, including information about access embargoes, copyright permissions, and other frequently asked questions are available on the library’s website. Dissertation and Thesis Deposit Information Sessions

Library Lower Level, room C196.05

These one-hour information sessions will address: the deposit procedure; document and file preparation; copyright concerns; citation & plagiarism; and embargoes (access restrictions).

Sessions are designed to address common concerns of doctoral and master’s students, with some time allotted for individual questions.

Have a last-minute concern about depositing your dissertation or thesis? The library’s Dissertation Office dedicates time for drop-in student consultations every Tuesday from 1-3pm beginning March 12 through April 30. No appointments will be scheduled at this time in order to serve students on a walk-in basis. (NB: Students are still welcome to stop by at other times or request an appointment during regular business hours by emailing rshirazi@gc.cuny.edu.)

Using MS Word for Your Dissertation or Thesis

Library Lower Level, room C196.05

Bring your laptop and learn how to make the most of MS Word to format your dissertation or thesis. Whether you are just getting started or nearing deposit, this workshop will demonstrate techniques and tips to save you time and headache in formatting your document.

Topics covered will include:

  • working with styles;
  • creating and using templates;
  • creating an automatic table of contents;
  • inserting tables, images, and external files;
  • combining chapter files into one document; and
  • using sections to control page numbers.

Roxanne Shirazi is assistant professor and dissertation research librarian at the CUNY Graduate Center, where she also serves as project director for the CUNY Digital History Archive and oversees the college’s institutional archives.
