We welcome Laurent Pérat, a visiting scholar at the Graduate Center Library February – April, 2017. Laurent is in the midst of his course of study at ENSSIB, in Lyon, France. While librarians in the US obtain master’s degrees in library and/or information science, Laurent will earn a French ‘library curator’ credential following a year and a half of study and on-the-job-training. Graduate Center librarians are thrilled that Laurent sought us out for the on-the-job part of his library study, not the least reason for which is that he is fluent in French, English, and Spanish.

Laurent is interested in open access initiatives. While he is with us he will support select GC faculty in self-archiving their published scholarship into the open access repository CUNY Academic Works. Should you be fortunate enough to receive a note from him about placing a previously published work in CUNY Academic Works, you will be rewarded to accept his assistance. Periodical publishers’ standing policies often allows published scholarly work to be duplicated on a publicly accessible platform, opening access to the work for readers around the globe. Placing your old work in Academic Works can revive interest in it by bringing a larger readership and citation.

Laurent has studied philosophy at the graduate level at the Université de Paris IV Sorbonne. He holds the equivalent of Master’s degrees in the history of philosophy and contemporary philosophy. He has taught high school for several years at the Jean Rostand High School of Chantilly while also serving as an Associate Professor at the Lycée Condorcet and the Université de Paris I Sorbonne. Prior to his career in higher education he worked with France Telecom.
