The Graduate Center Library is pleased to offer the CUNY community a new collection: CUNY GC Legacy (Retrospective) Dissertations, 1965-2014. This database is open for use by any current CUNY Library user on any CUNY campus, and it requires authentication with a CUNY library barcode number. The database is available through CUNY Libraries E-Resources as well as the Graduate Center Library’s A – Z Databases.

This GC Library -constructed resource includes CUNY dissertations through 2014, including those for that time period that have also been made publicly available in CUNY Academic Works. The GC Library distributes dissertations publicly only with permission from authors. We invite and encourage GC alumni to authorize public distribution of their graduate work in Academic Works. While dissertations in Academic Works and the CUNY catalog can be discovered with OneSearch, the digitized legacy dissertations are not yet discoverable with OneSearch. Legacy dissertations may be shared through interlibrary loan when requested by researchers without CUNY credentials.

Stephen Klein, the GC Library’s Digital Services Librarian, modified the Omeka platform to accommodate the GC’s legacy work. Stephen Zweibel, the GC Library’s Data & Digital Projects Librarian, massaged the metadata. The dissertations themselves were digitized by ProQuest with support from the Graduate Center Mina Rees Library Friends.
