Welcome to Roxanne Shirazi, Adjunct Reference Librarian

IMG_4259Roxanne Shirazi joins the Graduate Center Library in the division of Public Services as Adjunct Reference and Digital Outreach Librarian. Roxanne will supply reference service, implement suggestions for library space, and participate in the strategic development of outreach plans for GC library workshops and services, including standardizing social networking practices.

Roxanne is a Master’s student in the Liberal Studies Program at the Graduate Center, with a dual concentration in American Studies and Digital Humanities, where she studies 1930s radical documentary film-making, labor history, feminism, and periodical studies. She is also the MALS Program Representative to the Doctoral Student’s Council and a member of the Student Technology Fee Committee.

A founding editor of dh+lib, “where the digital humanities and librarianship meet,” Roxanne is involved in efforts to increase the visibility of librarians in the digital humanities, while examining the impact of digital scholarship on library instruction, outreach, and the role of subject librarians. She is interested in digital research methods and learning new tools and workflows for managing digital resources during archival research, and exploring new ways to incorporate special collections materials in classroom instruction.

Roxanne completed her MSLIS  library degree at Pratt Institute’s School of Information and Library Science, where she specialized in Special Collections and Archives. She has worked with a variety of research collections through her internships at the Museum of Modern Art Library, the International Center of Photography, and the Tamiment Library & Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives at NYU. She received her BA in Film Studies from the University of California at Berkeley, and before becoming a librarian, spent over 10 years working in academic bookstores and publishing.

Please join us in welcoming Roxanne to the Public Services team and the Graduate Center Library.
