The Graduate Center Library is pleased to introduce Donna Davey, our new adjunct reference librarian. Donna will be the reference librarian on duty (available at the reference desk, by phone at 212-817-7077, and by chat) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays until 8pm, so she will become a familiar face to our evening researchers.

Before coming to the Graduate Center, Donna served as Tamiment Librarian at NYU’s Tamiment Library & Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives, Curator of Manuscripts at the New-York Historical Society, and Senior Reference Librarian at New York Public Library. We feel incredibly lucky to have snagged a librarian with so much knowledge of these collections, which many of our students and faculty use heavily, and we plan to make ample use of her expertise. For example, she’s going to create a guide to archival research and the special collections around New York City, tailored to the needs of the GC community. (Until her guide appears, you might find the slides from our recent archival research workshop helpful.)

Not only does Donna have deep knowledge of some of NYC’s richest research collections, she’s also already familiar with the Graduate Center, having graduated from the MALS program (with concentrations in Modernism and Film) in 2005. She also has a master’s degree in library science from the Pratt Institute and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Catholic University of America.

Donna is one of the most approachable and calmly competent librarians we’ve ever seen, so please don’t hesitate to bring her your research questions and confusions!
